Record 1.1

Her Tollan owners did not give her a name, only a serial number, 77-4.3. The unit that comprised fully a third of her crew did have a name, one it bore in memory of great heroism of wars past, the designation of 100th Battalion, 442nd Regimental Combat Team, the One-Puka-Puka. While Tollan sensibilities declined to emotionally engage with the instruments of death by giving them identity, Tau'ri tradition demanded names, designations with which martial glories could be cataloged and proclaimed to future generations of warriors. So the 100th, following their own sensibilities, privately christened the vessel. They called her the Cato.

Record 1.2

The visual is clear enough that it is possible to see the ion bolts slam into the lead vessel of the six-ship formation. It's half-formed shields fluctuate and fail, and the ship is torn asunder withing seconds. The other ships respond sluggishly, off guard from the sudden attack, finally snapping into a new formation, and accelerating, fully twelve seconds after the frame of the visual starts expanding, proof that their attacker is already underway. The camera shifts, giving a slightly different angle, but no matter, the exchange of Ion and Plasma fire is perfectly clear. As second vessel drops away from it's sisters, clearly having engine troubles, and then a third joins it, apparently disabled. The engagement thus far has lasted less than a minute, but it is clear that the initial attacker has superior weapons. But numbers are telling, and the Ion fire from the turrets outside the camera's frame has slacked, energy rerouted to shields or engines.

Then, suddenly, the battle turns, as a dark patch on the recording flashes bright white. Missile launch from pods dropped as the attacker began it's flight. The ambush is perfect. Three flashes of nuclear fire, and the camera shifts again, just in time to catch the launching of fighters as a fourth detonation lights up the background. A few of the vessels arrayed against the Cato is still offering resistance, but it's all over except the mop-up.

AN:

Just some snippets illustrating the idea behind this fic. Tau'ri military advisers and Tollan crew fighting a proxy war against... oh wait, that would be telling.

If people are interested, I'll write up actual plot. if not, well, plot bunny excised at, least.
